Following the theme of clothes I wish they made in adult sizes

Seen at REI: Children's biking jersey "Riding Cupcake Mountain." I'm not a child nor do I bike seriously enough to own a biking jersey, but I still like it :).

500 Cupcakes

My friend Bryan bought me a book called 500 Cupcakes recently.

He was even so kind as to mark several pages for me as "suggestions." His #1 suggestion were the mint chocolate chip cupcakes that I attempted on Sunday.

A lot of recipes in 500 Cupcakes call for self-rising flour. Since I only have all purpose I looked up how to turn all purpose flour into self-rising flour. It takes 1.5 tsp of baking powder and .5 tsp of salt for every cup of AP flour. No problem. Except this recipe also called for another tsp of baking powder. Why would it want self-rising flour AND baking powder in addition. Makes no sense! I made it this way anyway and until I added the mint extract the cupcakes tasted an awful lot like baking powder. Once the batter was done it was also way too thick for a cupcake batter. More like cookie dough. I spooned it into the cups anyway and baked. Then it was time for the frosting. 2/3 c butter + 2 c powdered sugar. WAY too dry. The consistency was like Play-Doh. At this point I was fed up and not feeling like figuring out how to balance it out so I just pulled a can of vanilla frosting from my cupboard and added the green food coloring and mint extract. I have to say that despite all of this the cupcakes came out pretty well. The cake was a tad dry (as I would expect with such a thick batter) but the frosting saves them. I'm going to give 500 Cupcakes another shot, but so far, not so good.

Maple Bacon Cupcakes...mmmmmm...

From sweetkisses0530 comes the most awesome recipe since bacon chocolate chip cookies.

I see these in my near future. Yum.

Someone beat me to the punch!

I was totally planning on doing this but Happiness in a Bite is clearly not as lazy as I:

Oh Dear

To complete the crazy:

I think the cupcake pillow is what puts it over the top. I think I've discovered what "too obsessed with cupcakes" looks like.

I got new PJs!

Scott got me an awesome set of cupcake pajamas by Nick and Nora

Close up of the print:

The funny thing is I already have a pair of cropped pajama pants in this same print. So I think I own a complete set of cupcake pajamas. It's quite possible I've gone off the deep end.

Just what I needed

BBQ Chicken USB??

USB Geek also provides other useful shapes like hamburger, pizza, watermelon, and strawberry. Yet no cupcake?

Haha

Someone sent this out to a mailing list at work this morning and it made me laugh.

"Michael Phelps at a Young Age"

Giant Cupcake

I saw this in a Visa ad awhile ago and had been meaning to look up a photo but one of the blogs I read beat me to the punch so no extra work needed! The ad is about small business owners and how their business are not really small to them. To represent this visually each person in the ad has behind them a giant version of whatever it is they sell. So the furniture maker has a giant rocking chair, the cheese monger has a giant roll of cheese, and the baker has

a giant cupcake of course!! How awesome would this be if it really existed? I want to eat it.

Why I love my job reason # I've lost count

Two weeks ago I got to order cupcakes as part of my job. It was for our final party for an event I helped organize. I chose Sibby's Cupcakery in San Mateo and they were delicious. The flavors were:

Carrot Cinnamon (with the Google logo) - very moist and delicious. Great cream cheese frosting.
Grandma's Chocolate Teacake (with the chocolate frosting) - very rich and delicious. The cream cheese/chocolate chip center puts it over the top!
Lemon Drop (yellow frosting with dots) - one of my favorites. The lemon flavor was so fresh and delicious. I think fruit flavored cupcakes are becoming my favorite.
Chocolate and Cream (with CSSI on top) - according to Sibby's these have cream cheese frosting but I swear it tasted like buttercream. Either way this was my favorite. Really delicious chocolate cake with wonderfully rich frosting. Not for the faint of sweet tooth!
Buttercup (with lightbulb) - unfortunately I didn't get to taste this one as they were all out before I got a chance. I hear they were delicious though :).

The following morning we had loads of cupcakes leftover and I totally had one for breakfast. I got strange looks but honestly is it any worse than having a donut?? It was really good...

Freakiest strawberry I've ever seen

The explanation from the Google chef: "They're organic." Ok.

Spitzian --> Phelpsian

New SI cover for Michael Phelps (saw that one coming from a MILE away), posed like Mark Spitz did after he won his 7.

Check out that porn stash on Spitz! He swam with that beast on his face and no cap to slow down the drag caused by his hair. Even though it's only one more medal, Phelps' look like way more since they are on ribbons instead of chains. Doesn't Phelps look like kind of a goober? I still can't believe he did it!

Also a note to the Olympic commentators: please stop referring to non-swimming accomplishments as Phelpsian. Yes May-Walsh have gone one year without losing. No, that is not Phelpsian. It's just awesome.

That's SIR Penguin

Apparently in Norway it is completely acceptable to knight a penguin.

Nils Olav, an Edinburgh Zoo penguin and Colonel-in-Chief of the Norwegian King's Guard, an elite unit tasked with protecting the Norwegian royal family, inspects soldiers of his regiment as they visit him in Edinburgh, Scotland, Friday Aug. 15, 2008, where he was presented with a medal. The original Nils Olav first became an honorary member of the regiment in 1972, when a young lieutenant called Nils Egelien visited the penguins at the zoo, but died in the 1980s, and was replaced by the current Nils Olav.(AP Photo/David Cheskin-pa)

Why, cupcake candles, of course!

These aren't nearly as cute in person as they are in this photo. In general candles shaped like other items never really look good.

One last one from our friends at UO.

Perfection

Talking Butters bobblehead. Yes, please!

Butters can be yours for the low low price of $15 from our friends at Urban Outfitters. Now if only there was an I Can't Believe It's Not Butters!

Did I mention he talks?? If he says "Aw, nutsack" my life may be complete.

Use a cupcake to store your cookies

Clearly I need one.

More from Love at First Bite

Went to Berkeley with a friend today for lunch and some afternoon shopping. I was also hoping to visit Spun Sugar. Turns out it's closed on Sundays but as long as I was in town I thought I'd stop by Love at First Bite, my favorite Nor Cal cupcakery. Had the peanut butter again. Couldn't resist. It is soooo rich so I don't recommend it for the faint of sweet tooth but oh does it hit the spot for me. I have four more flavors to try: vanilla on vanilla, chocolate on chocolate, lemon kiss, and pretty in pink. I will report back once I have tasted them all. This pic is from my first visit to Love at First Bite but it will do :)

More Scrabble Cupckes!

These ones from PinkCakeBox

Apparently for a bridal shower. So cute.

Boom!

I cannot believe that just happened.

The American Men's 4x100 Freestyle relay was amazing. Jason Lezak managed to out touch the French team by .08 seconds after being nearly a body length behind coming into the last lap. He swam a 46.06 100m relay leg, the fastest in history, and the whole race blew the world record out of the water by nearly 4 seconds. That record was set by the Americans in the semi-finals 15 hours before, by the way. I have to say I was not a fan of Michael Phelps going into these games but I've started to root for him. I want to see him win 8 gold medals. He may be kind of an ass, but he's an AMAZING swimmer and it would be an AMAZING feat. 2 down, 6 to go.
